Had a great crew of six join us this spring morning for some offshore action around Wrightsville Beach. Clear conditions greeted us throughout the day with calm waters near Myrtle Grove making for perfect fishing conditions. We headed out early morning ready to target some pelagic species on our Half Day Bluefish And Mackerel Fishing Trip.

We focused our efforts on trolling, drift fishing, and jigging techniques to cover different water columns. The crew managed to boat several Atlantic Bonito along with some scrappy Little Tunny that put up solid fights. Wrightsville Beach waters are prime for this type of offshore fishing since the structure and current breaks hold baitfish that attract these pelagic species year-round.

The combination of techniques worked well as we moved between spots, with the jigging producing some of the better fish when we found active schools. We wrapped up the trip with great catches and smiles all around.

Dallas Rock, 10 Mile Rock and 12 Mile Rock #3 have been producing solid numbers of fish for us. Troll anywhere from 7-10 knots using #1 planners and #1 Clarkspoons (sliver/green) (sliver/pink) rigged on 50-60 lb mono or floro or small diving plugs. Troll your spreads around the outside of the school so the Bonito don't get spooked. You can also sight cast with sliver diamond jigs when fishing are breaking the surface. Fish have been a bit smaller 18''-24'' but catching them in good numbers. Fisherman can find kings by searching for suspended bait marks in water temps that are in 68-72 degrees. Running Drone/Eco spoons off the down riggers is producing must of the kings caught. You can put lures at the exacted depth as the fish and the bait. Catching solid numbers of Wahoo, Blackfin and occasional Dolphin. Hot spots are the Same Ol Hole, Nipple. There is a great temp break at those spots right now. Trolling Fathom Soft Heads rigged with ballyhoo has been producing solid Blackfin catches. Cast top water plugs like the Oti Goanna or Williamson Jet Pro when Blackfin surface, we have had good hook-ups doing that. We have been catching Wahoo in the same area. High speed trolling with Fathom Double 'O' and Fathom Fat Boy skirt rigs have been producing keeper Wahoo.

We set out from Wrightsville Beach, NC on a mission to hook into some pelagic gamefish. March is a prime time for this kind of offshore fishing, as the warming waters bring the baitfish and predators closer to the surface. We wasted no time getting the trolling spread out and the heavy tackle ready. It wasn't long before the first rod screamed and Success was into his first fish of the day - a feisty Little Tunny that put up a great fight on the line. We got it in the boat, snapped a quick photo, and kept the lines moving.

The bite stayed steady throughout the trip, with the Spanish Mackerel and Atlantic Bonito keeping us on our toes. We mixed up the techniques, switching between deep-sea trolling and live bait, to cover as much water as possible. It was nonstop action, with rod after rod bending over as we boated fish after fish. Success was a natural, fighting each one with skill and enthusiasm. In between the flurries of activity, we had a chance to take in the open ocean scenery and enjoy the comfortable day on the water.
